Vienna, Va. (February 2, 2005):
Mandylion Research Labs, LLC today announced that three civilian agencies have selected Mandylion’s next generation password manager token for immediate deployment in their network operations centers.
The Commerce Department’s National Weather Service,
Treasury’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the National Institutes of Health have begun deployment of the Mandylion technology that has become available in January, 20005.
The Mandylion technology is an easy to use, keychain sized token platform which aids in the generation and management of
up to 50 simultaneous password logins. This latest generation of Mandylion’s technology was just released in January 2005. It is a result of a three year program with the
DoD’s Advanced Systems and Concepts focused on accelerating the maturity of commercial technologies that have demonstrated military utility in solving the immediate needs of the warfighter. The technology focuses specifically on securing the infrastructure where alternatives to passwords are not always practical or cost/risk justified.
Similar to its use in the DoD, all three civilian agencies are deploying the technology with their systems administrators in their network operations centers. Systems administrators in such centers work in 24 hour teams to manage critical computing infrastructures on a continuous basis. Overlap and shared root authority to the active components of the network and servers is a requirement. These systems are password protected and mandate the use of cryptographically strong passwords which have been securely generated, managed and renewed on a regular basis.
The Mandylion technology, matured by the DoD program, is the only technology which allows for the secure generation, coordination and dissemination of these login records among the systems administration staffs. Systems administrators are each assigned tokens which serve as memory aids to both individual and group login records and user ID’s.
“Civilian agencies have closely watched the maturity of the Mandylion technology and immediately deployed it once it was released” stated Joe Grajewski, President of Mandylion Labs. “Although matured for the military, the technology has universal appeal in that it offers any organization faced with compliance with strong password policies, the ability to provide for a secure infrastructure” he added.
About the Technology Mandylion Labs’ developed and patented this innovative and inexpensive password manager in a 6 year development effort. It is a key chain sized device that helps any user instantly create cryptographically strong passwords that immediately work with
any web site, login or system. To insure purely random passcodes, algorithms embedded within the token’s firmware continuously sense and take input from the user's random and unique interaction with the device. This random data is utilized by the algorithms in generating passwords which can be throttled to meet any password policy as to length, composition and renewal period.
A key feature is that the device functions as a memory aide to the secure and convenient
storage of a user’s passwords along with their
automatic update. The technology was designed to do away with the inherent weaknesses traditionally associated with the use of passwords; namely the individual being asked to create, remember and regularly change their passwords.
Passwords created with the device thwart all known brute force and dictionary type hacking attacks.
Originally developed for U.S. military and national security applications,
more advanced versions of the device have the ability to embed user identifying watermarks within the passwords generated. The biometric version of the unit can asymmetrically bio-authenticate the individual logging in to an ordinary web site.
